Cinco de Mayo

Planning for another cross-country adventure begins. Purchased a used scooter. Acquired new title and plates. Will take delivery in two days. After a 90 mile shakedown run home, the drive belt and rollers will be inspected and replaced if needed. Fluids will be drained and replaced. The sparkplug, gas & air filters will be inspected. After that, a few cosmetic alterations. The trip should begin by the end of May.

The route from my home in northern New England to the San Diego area is not a perfect straight line. It will meander, gyre and gimble in the wabe.

2013 XC Route

As always, secondary roads at a slow pace, geologic features, and intriguing landscapes, dictate my route. Some quasi-planned high points are the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia and Kentucky, the confluence of the Ohio & Mississippi Rivers at Cairo, Illinois, the Plains and Dust Bowl region of Oklahoma/Texas Panhandle, and the geologic wonders of the American southwest.

I married Isis on the fifth day of May
But I could not hold on to her very long
So I cut off my hair and I rode straight away
For the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong
– Bob Dylan & Jacques Levy, Isis
